Computers & Networks - Our History
Computers & Networks was founded in 1983 as "The Software Store," to bring big-business class products to small and medium businesses using the technology revolution afforded by the IBM PC becoming widely available. While word-processing, spreadsheets, accounting applications and other innovations were important, we discovered that sharing that information digitally was critical to business success. We determined that Computers AND Networks were the answer, and became one of the first integrators in the Southeast region to offer a networked solution utilizing Novell Netware. We trained our staff as Novell Certfied Netware Engineers, to provide Enterprise level services to our growing customer base. As the computer industry expanded to encompass new technologies, Computers & Networks expanded our business focus with them. Microsoft broadened its focus from the desktop to the network, and we were among the first to offer Microsoft Certified Professionals to assist our customers in implementing the new technologies they needed. As networking software and hardware systems evolved, we forged key relationships with a select group of vendors providing the most reliable and stable products. This was the second cornerstone to our philosophy, that not only should information be shared, but that it must be consistently and reliably available. The internet revolution of the early 1990's opened new frontiers in sharing information, and also new potential threats to business. Computers have grown from an electronic assistant to a critical component of daily operations. Security of networked systems is no longer just a matter of preventing unauthorized access, but protection from a broad base of hazards that could bring company operations to a halt. Intrusion detection, anti-virus solutions, email security, denial-of-service protection, and disaster recovery are key issues facing our customers today. Computers & Networks provides our expertise to secure the networked workplace, and help ensure business continuity. Many years have passed since we started, the industry has changed, and information is available today in ways we could only imagine in 1983. Throughout the years, Computers & Networks has been at the forefront of bringing proven solutions to our customers. We have grown and changed along with the industry, and our continued success has been the result of our focus on solving our customer's needs and ensuring their satisfaction.
